PERSONAL INJURY ACCIDENTS

CHAZY — A Rouses Point man was injured when he fell asleep at the wheel March 28, police said.

Dylan Carey, 19, was driving northbound in the Town of Chazy shortly before 4:45 a.m. when he allegedly fell asleep, Plattsburgh-based State Police said.

The name of the street Carey was driving on was not available.

The vehicle veered off the west shoulder of the road, striking a guiderail, then continued northbound on the shoulder, overturned and struck an embankment, ejecting Carey from the car, police said.

The vehicle then went into the river, police said.

Carey was taken to CVPH Medical Center where he was treated and released.

The police report was incomplete and no further information was available.

WILMINGTON — A Saranac Lake woman was injured in a one-car accident March 27.

Shortly before 10:21 p.m., Deborah A. Fox, 47, was driving westbound on Route 86 near Whatavu Way in the Town of Wilmington when she allegedly fell asleep, exited the north shoulder of the roadway and hit an embankment, tipping the 2009 Suzuki Sx4 onto the passenger’s side, according to Wilmington-based State Police.

Fox was taken to a hospital for treatment, police said.

No further information was available.

LEWIS — Police say a distracted driver was taken to the hospital Monday after her car overturned off the Northway.

Lewis-based State Police were called to the northbound lanes of Interstate 87 at about 4:40 p.m. after Elisabete Fernandes’s vehicle veered off the highway and overturned in an embankment.

According to police reports, Fernandes, 58, said she was distracted by her GPS when her vehicle drifted from the left lane of traffic. Fernandes attempted to regain control of the vehicle, but, police said, she overcorrected, causing it to spin around and go back off the road, where it overturned.

Fernandes was taken to Elizabethtown Community Hospital after the crash. A condition report on her status there was not immediately available Tuesday night.
