MALONE — A door-to-door dog census will be conducted in the Village and Town of Malone beginning Thursday, June 20.
All dogs 4 months old and older must be vaccinated for rabies and licensed in the town in which they reside.
Owners have until June 19 to take advantage of a pre-census amnesty the town is offering to avoid a $25 penalty that will be charged for all unlicensed dogs beginning June 20.
Licensing is done through the Malone Town Clerk’s Office at 27 Airport Road.
When applying for the license, the owner must provide proof of the rabies vaccination and, where applicable, a certificate of spaying or neutering.
The license costs $13 for a spayed female or neutered male and $21 for dogs that have not been sterilized.
Senior citizens age 65 and older are charged $5 to license a spayed or neutered dog and $13 for a canine that has not had the surgery.
The door-to-door dog enumeration will be conducted by Dog Control Officer Shirley Morton and her staff, who will be looking for unlicensed dogs or those overdue for re-licensing.
