Career exploration
TO THE EDITOR: On behalf of the staff and students at SUNY Plattsburgh Upward Bound, I would like to thank the following people and places of business for participating in our career exploration series by hosting field trips to their offices/establishments: SUNY Plattsburgh Health Center, Press-Republican, Jeffords Steel, Kevin Mulligan from Chazy Central School, Plattsburgh Chamber of Commerce, Conroy's Organics, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Adirondack Physical Therapy & Sports Rehabilitation, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Behavioral Health Services North, and Eagle's Nest Veterinary Hospital.

The career exploration series is designed to enlighten our students about a variety of careers. We offer these field trips to local businesses to speak with professionals about their fields of work, the path they took, the required education, opportunities for advancement, etc. These personal and social interactions with professionals help our students in choosing a career path during and after college. Thank you for your continued support of SUNY Plattsburgh Upward Bound.

Live United
TO THE EDITOR: Give. Advocate. Volunteer. Live United. This is the theme for this year's 2010 United Way of Clinton & Essex Counties campaign. The goal is $700,000. The primary strategy is employee campaigns for all the employers throughout the region. The easiest way to give is through payroll deduction: employees sign up for an equal amount of money, say $5, $ 10, or even $2, to be deducted from each pay check they receive in 2010. If you are an employer and haven't participated in the campaign, call the United Way office at 563-0028 and ask for pledge materials. Consider a corporate gift. If you are an employee, please give to the United Way through your workplace campaign. All the money raised stays local: every cent of it. It feels good to give. Right now, there are 33 partner agencies, all of whom are not-for-profit organizations governed by a board of directors. These fine organizations are working very hard to make the lives of families and individuals better with funding they receive from United Way.

For more information about the United Way and the 2010 campaign, go to www.unitedwayce.org. Remember. Give. Advocate. Volunteer. Live United.
