Sentinels snap Saranac's streak

TICONDEROGA -- The final unbeaten team in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference baseball this season fell Tuesday afternoon when Ticonderoga recorded a 5-3 victory over Saranac.
Hunter Denno struck out nine, walked one and allowed eight hits in going the distance for the win. Losing pitcher Jordan Keysor, who also went the route, fanned seven, walked one and surrendered eight hits.
"Both pitchers pitched well and did a good job," said Ticonderoga head coach Dan Dorsett.
Anthony Barnao went three-for-three and Jake Taylor added two hits for the Sentinels (6-1). Barnao and Steitz rapped home runs.
Richard Chase and Nick Desroches paced the Chiefs (7-2, 6-1) with two hits apiece.
Ticonderoga scored in the second inning when Barnao singled and later came across on Steven Lenhart's squeeze bunt.
"We were hoping to score first because we knew Saranac was going to hit the ball," said Dorsett.
Doubles by Todd Carr and Barnao gave the Sentinels a 2-0 lead in the fourth and Steitz's two-run homer made it 4-0 in the fifth.
The Chiefs got a run back in the sixth when Mark Eggleston singled and later scored on John Canning's double. But, Barnao put Ticonderoga back up by four with a solo homer in the home half.
Adam Gillette's double, Chase's single and Nick Desroches' two-run single pulled the Chiefs to within 5-3 in the seventh. But, with the tying run at the plate, Denno struck out the next two batters to end the game.

PLATTSBURGH -- Matt Seymour had a big game both on the mound and at the plate for the Knights.
Seymour tossed a three-hitter, struck out 10 and didn't walk anyone in going the distance for the win. Offensively, the junior rapped out three hits, including a double, and drove in a run.
Kent Fessette added two hits and a RBI, while Bill Bower contributed a hit and sacrifice fly for the Knights.
The Cougars' hits were a triple by Cory Trombley, a double by Cory Davison and a single by Jon Fortin. Ryan Armstrong allowed 10 hits, fanned seven and didn't walk anyone in going the route for the loss.
The Knights scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-1 lead and held a 4-1 advantage after four.
The Cougars drew to within one in the fifth when Trombley tripled to right field to drive in a run and scored on an errant relay throw.

AUSABLE FORKS -- Ricky Lee drove in the game-winning run with a double in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Patriots their win over the Red Storm.
John Michael Bresette allowed three hits, struck out five and walked seven in going the first five innings and Eric Rock pitched two scoreless innings in relief to run his season record to 3-0.
Dan Drake struck out one, did not walk anyone and allowed six hits in taking the tough loss.
Saranac Lake took a 1-0 lead in the third when Nick Fortune doubled and scored on Logan McDougall's base hit.
Kyle Fuller's sacrifice fly pulled AuSable Valley even in the fifth before Lee rapped his RBI double in the sixth to account for the margin of difference.

PORT HENRY -- Aaron Tenbuuren struck out nine in tossing a complete game and leading the Indians past the Vikings.
Andrew McCormick rapped a two-run triple, Rob Holdridge a RBI single and Matt Leta a double for Peru.
The Indians, who took advantage of seven Moriah errors, scored three runs in each of the second, third and fourth innings.
Tim Martin and Richard Larmore paced the Vikings with two hits apiece, with Martin getting a double. Don Tesar rapped a two-run triple in the first inning for Moriah. The losing pitcher was Caleb Armstrong.

ELLENBURG -- Pat Shaughnessy rapped out two hits, scored three runs and played a strong game defensively at shortstop to lead the Hornets.
Brandon Hatch added two hits for PHS, while winning pitcher Joe Kirkpatrick contributed a triple and Gino Blando and Andrew Manabat, doubles.
The Hornets broke a 3-all tie with seven runs in the top of the second inning.
Ryan Harris led Northern Adirondack with three hits and Andrew McDonald added two. Brandon Poupore and Dylan Lashway hit triples, while Harris and McDonald accounted for doubles.

BEEKMANTOWN -- Patrick Manor accounted for four hits, including a home run and triple, as the Eagles rolled past the Blue Bombers.
Ryan Sponable, Frank Buksa, Evan Bull and Jonathan Manor added three hits apiece, with Buksa and Reid Olsen driving in three runs apiece.
Matt Trombly went the first four innings, striking out nine and walking seven, for the pitching win. Buksa then fanned five and walked four over the final three innings.
Beekmantown, leading 3-1 after one, scored five times in the second to break it open. Frank Bazzicalupo started the took the loss for Lake Placid.
