City to move transformer through streets
PLATTSBURGH -- Crews from the city's Municipal Lighting Department will be moving a massive transformer through the streets today.
A substation transformer will be moved from the end of George Angell Drive to the end of Veterans Lane.
The large unit will be hauled down Rugar Street to Broad Street to Oak Street to Boynton Avenue before finishing up at Veterans Lane.
Several vehicles will be in the slow-moving convoy to haul the transformer and police have been notified.
The convoy expects to be moving between 9 and 10 a.m. today.
County's top scholars to be feted
ALTONA -- A celebration of academic achievement featuring the top students from Clinton County public schools is slated for 6 p.m. Thursday at the Rainbow Wedding and Banquet Hall.
About 120 top scholars will receive formal recognition of their academic accomplishments, with their parents, high-school principals, school-board members and school superintendents offering their congratulations.
Sponsors of this ninth-annual county-wide event include the Clinton County School Boards Association; Coca-Cola; Hood; McDonald's Corp.; the New York State Schools Insurance Reciprocal; Northern Insuring; Riley Ford; Northern Sanitation; Stafford, Owens, Curtin & Trombley, PLLC; Parker Chevrolet-Oldsmobile-Pontiac; Conroy, Boulrice, Telling, Trombley, P.C.; Wyeth Pharmaceuticals; Champlain Plastics; and Plattsburgh Rotary Club.
ELCS School Board meeting set
ELIZABETHTOWN -- The Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School Board will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the ELCS conference room.
Agenda items include a presentation about the English language arts program and the athletic director talking about the merged hockey, track and tennis teams.
The meeting is open to all.
