LEWIS -- A Lewis-based trooper suffered minor injuries when he lost control of a State Police SUV Sunday night.
Though the accident is still being investigated, officials said Trooper Daniel White was likely traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the Chevy Tahoe as he rounded a slight left-hand curve on the Stowersville Road.
Lewis-based officials said White, whose age was not available Tuesday evening, was unable to keep the SUV on the road and crashed into an "earthen embankment."
Officials said White, who was driving with the emergency lights on, suffered minor injuries during the accident and was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
He was later released and has returned to duty.
The damaged Tahoe was later loaded onto a wrecker and taken to the Troop B headquarters in Ray Brook as part of an ongoing investigation into the 7:30 p.m. accident.
Officials said White was responding to Interstate 87 to assist another trooper with a traffic stop when the accident occurred.
No additional information about the accident was available Tuesday evening.
