PERSONAL-INJURY ACCIDENT

PLATTSBURGH -- Three people were injured when the car they were riding in was hit on Route 22 Monday afternoon.

Plattsburgh-based State Police reported Jennifer Lavalley, 30, of Dannemora was southbound on Route 22 at about 2 p.m. when she attempted to make a left turn onto Salmon River Road.

Lavalley reportedly failed to yield the right of way and struck a car being driven north on Route 22 by Barbie Ero, 26, of West Chazy.

There were two passengers riding with Ero at the time, Barbara Mousseau and Gage O'Neil, age and address unavailable.

Ero, Mousseau and O'Neil were transported to CVPH Medical Center, where they were treated for unspecified injuries and released.

Lavalley was ticketed for failure to yield the right of way while making a left turn.

MALONE -- A local man hurt his neck Sunday evening when he was thrown from an ATV while trying to drag a log near his River Road residence.

After backing his ATV up to the log, Jeffrey Hyde was trying to get off the recreational vehicle when he accidentally hit the accelerator.

The quick acceleration caused the ATV to rear up and throw the 44-year-old onto the ground.

Malone-based State Police said Hyde suffered neck bruises during the 7:30 p.m. accident.

BORDER ARREST

CHAMPLAIN -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials arrested a South Carolina murder suspect when he returned to the country Tuesday morning.

Roger Eugene Shepherd fled to Canada shortly after a June 2006 murder of a pawn-shop owner in South Carolina and is considered a prime suspect in the armed robbery and murder.

The 21-year-old was later apprehended by Canadian authorities and challenged extradition back to South Carolina where he faces charges of murder, assault with intent to kill, armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
