Adirondack Transit Inc. will provide a bus from Longueil, just outside of downtown Montreal, to the airport at the former Plattsburgh Air Force Base, off Route 22 in the Town of Plattsburgh.

"The airport right now is simply a stop on their route south from Montreal, but they are going to be offering a dedicated route to the airport only," said Michael Zurlo, Clinton County administrator.

The trip will cost $20 each way and will coincide with flight schedules.

Since it opened last year, the airport has been a big draw to many Canadian travelers heading to Florida or South Carolina.

Passengers come to the airport from the Greater Montreal area and even as far away as Quebec City.

Allegiant Air and Myrtle Beach Direct have both had significant success operating direct flights from Plattsburgh.

Cape Air also operates daily commuter flights from the airport.

With that success has come hundreds of cars parked long-term at the airport. Passengers are allowed to leave their cars at the airport for free while they are away, which has been a big draw for travelers.

The county had to expand the parking lot last winter due to the number of cars parked there.

Zurlo said the new bus service should help.

"Besides offering a great service to passengers, the new bus route will have the secondary benefit of saving some parking spaces for us."

Legislators last week approved a contract with Adirondack Transit that will allow the company to implement the route.
