NEWBURGH, N.Y. (AP) -- AirTran Airways says it will stop service at Stewart International Airport in September because of losses tied to high fuel costs.
AirTran is one of the two main carriers serving the Hudson Valley airport along with JetBlue Airways. AirTran flies from Stewart to Atlanta, Ga. and to Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale and Tampa in Florida. It will stop operations at Stewart on Sept. 3.
Tad Hutcheson, AirTran vice president of marketing, said, "We've had continued mounting losses there and we just can't continue."
AirTran will become the second airline to leave the airport this year. Skybus Airlines went out of business in April, citing rising fuel costs.
AirTran Airways also flies out of of the Burlington International Airport.
