SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Officials at the Burlington International Airport are scrambling to finance the expansion of the parking garage and other projects.
Last month, Burlington voters rejected a $50 million bond that would have paid for the projects.
Airport Director Brian Searles says the project wasn't voted down, just the way it was to be paid for.
The expansion would add 1,400 additional parking spaces and a "green roof" that would feature features solar panels and wind turbines, which would cut the airport's electric bill.
The entire project is designed to be built in phases. The first phase of the project would add about 600 parking spaces and cost about $12 million.
The green roof could be built on the first section.
