Canadian police will question Glen Race in Texas

PLATTSBURGH -- A team of investigators from Canada will travel to Brownsville, Texas, Saturday to interrogate accused murderer Glen D. Race, so he likely won't be brought to Clinton County this week.

Race, charged with the homicide of Darcy Manor of Mooers, is awaiting transfer to New York State Police custody, whereupon he will be brought to Clinton County to face prosecution here.

He is also accused of killing two Halifax, Nova Scotia, men. And while he would stand trial in Clinton County first, said Royal Canadian Mounted Police Cpl. Joe Taplin, "We have to have all our evidence gathered and in place."

The media-relations officer said the team of investigators will meet with officials in Brownsville on Sunday; he didn't know when they would question Race or how long they would be there.

"There are quite a bit of tasks to be completed down there," he said.

Thursday, a court order was sent from Clinton County to Texas setting June 8 as the deadline for Race's arraignment in Mooers Town Court.

Taplin said the search continues for the black 2004 two-door Honda Civic with a rainbow teddy-bear decal on the trunk. Police believe Race stole the car from victim Trevor Charles Brewster and drove from Halifax through New Brunswick and Quebec to reach the U.S. border.

While it seems unlikely the car made it into New York state, he said, law enforcement is on the lookout for it here, as well.

"You can't rule out any possibility," Taplin said.

The Honda's Nova Scotia plate number is DYS031. Call New York State Police with information: 563-3761.
