Storm downs trees, power lines

PLATTSBURGH — A thunderstorm moving south from Franklin County into Clinton and Essex counties Friday evening felled multiple trees in the area.

Clinton County dispatchers were inundated with calls of trees and power lines down in locations around the North Country including Lyon Mountain, Dannemora, Chazy, the City of Plattsburgh and Cadyville.

Just after 6:45 p.m., Clinton County emergency dispatch reported a tree knocked onto power lines near 811 Sunset Road there.

Minutes later, an emergency official told dispatchers that multiple trees were down on Mill Street in the Town of Dannemora hamlet and that he needed help clearing the roadway.

At 6:54 p.m., additional personnel were called to Lyon Mountain’s Fire Station to help.

The trees were cleared off Mill Street by 6:58 p.m.

Just after 7 p.m., a violent storm swept into Plattsburgh with strong winds and heavy rain.

The National Weather Service in Burlington had issued a storm warning set to expire at 7:15 p.m.

Four minutes later, a tree was reported down at 4888 South Catherine St. in the City of Plattsburgh with a downed live wire.

City Police blocked off the road while they waited for the Municipal Lighting Department to arrive and repair the wire.

Traffic was still being controlled there at 8:40 p.m.

At about 7:40 p.m., one person was reported to be injured after a car hit a tree near 233 Military Turnpike in the Town of Plattsburgh.

Clinton County dispatchers received a report of a tree down on a house on Cumberland Avenue near Wilcox Dock at 7:22 p.m.

A few seconds later, multiple trees were reported to have fallen on General Leroy Manor Road in Cadyville.

Then at about 7:45 p.m., dispatchers received a report of a tree that had fallen on power lines on Ratta Road in Chazy.
