People can sign up for weatherization help

ELIZABETHTOWN — The Adirondack Community Action Program Inc.’s Weatherization Assistance Program is seeking applicants from Essex County.

The program provides services to income-eligible families and individuals by reducing their heating/cooling cost and improving the safety of their homes through energy-efficiency measures.

Measures performed by the program include air sealing; wall and attic insulation; heating-system improvements or replacement; efficiency improvements in lighting, hot water tank and pipe insulation; and refrigerator replacements with Energy Star-rated models.

All services are provided without obligations to the occupant of the home. Landlords may contact the office for investment requirements.

Essex County residents can use this guideline to determine if they may be eligible for ACAP weatherization services (based on size of household and monthly income): household of one person, $2,175 monthly income; two people, $2,844; three people, $3,513; four people, $4,182; five people, $4,852; six people, $5,521; seven people, $5,646; eight people, $5,772; nine people, $5,897; 10 people, $6,023; and 11 people, $6,461.

The Weatherization Program is funded annually by the U.S. Department of Energy.

In addition, the program also receives funds from the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, funded by the U.S. Health and Human Services.

The Weatherization Program is administered by New York State Division of Homes & Community Renewal.
