Mike Ahern reported the fire at about 9 a.m. When the fire trucks arrived, the two-car garage along with the outdoor woodshed and the wood boiler room off the back were totally involved, said Saranac Volunteer Fire Department Lieutenant James Terry.

Saranac, Morrisonville, Dannemora, Cadyville, Lyon Mountain and Bloomingdale fire departments responded to the fire. Bloomingdale was turned around and Clinton Correctional Fire Brigade was on standby.

The knockdown took about an hour and a half, Terry said, partly because forty cords of wood had caught fire.

Terry said the garage was insured, and no one was injured in the blaze, though one firefighter received a scratch.

The Saranac Fire Department was back in service at about 1 p.m.

BURKE — A structure fire on State Route 11 in Burke began at about 8:02 p.m. tonight and initiated the response of Burke and Chateaugay fire departments.

No further information was available.
