Cards’ Damm, Gehring honored
CORTLAND — After another successful week on the field, Plattsburgh State lacrosse players Brendan Damm and Gordie Gehring each received weekly honors from the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC).
Damm, a freshman, was named the SUNYAC Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week after tallying five points in a 14-2 win in the Cardinals’ home opener last Wednesday night against Norwich. The Montauk, N.Y., product scored his first goal of the day at the 6:41 mark of the first quarter and added an assist in the second. He tacked on three more goals in the fourth quarter. Damm also was tied for a game-high five ground balls and led Plattsburgh State with eight shots on goal.
A senior netminder, Gehring received SUNYAC Men’s Lacrosse Goalie of the Week accolades for the second time in his career after taking a shutout into the 54th minute of Wednesday’s non-conference game against the Cadets. The native of Jamesville, N.Y., allowed one goal and made seven saves in the 14-2 win, improving his record to 4-0 on the year.
Another Wednesday night showdown is on tap for the Cardinals (4-0), who are receiving votes in the latest USILA Division III Coaches Poll. Morrisville State (0-2) will make the trip to the Field House Lacrosse Complex to take on Plattsburgh State. The non-conference tilt is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
