Gladys (Boulerice) Racine

CHAMPLAIN — Gladys (Boulerice) Racine, 92, of Hayford Road Champlain, N.Y., peacefully died in her sleep at home on June 9, 2013. She was the daughter of Joseph and Lillian (Gokey) Boulerice of Champlain.

She was the oldest surviving member of the graduating class of 1940 at St. Mary's Academy in Champlain. In 1941, she married the sweetheart of her life George Racine and they had celebrated their 71 wedding anniversary last Sept. Her life was centered around her family, and "Memere" always had endless hugs for all of us. Oh, the meals she served, the cookies, the cakes that came out of the oven! Her vegetable gardens produced the best, and she claimed that the weeds helped out. Hundreds have cuddled in the comfort of the quilts that she made.

She was a bus driver for Northeastern Central School for over 20 years, and the kids showered her with love. And we all knew that, as the sign at the entrance of her kitchen stated, "If Memere isn't happy, nobody's happy!"

She is survived by her husband George; daughter, Rita who cared for her so lovingly; and her daughter, Jeanne and husband Juvenal Casaverde of Rochester N.Y.; her 6 grandchildren, Janet Casaverde-Pineda and husband Pedro, Ruben Casaverde and wife Zoraida, Pablo Casaverde and wife Nina, Jose Casaverde and wife Kathryn, Monique Monette, Daniel Monette and wife Jolene; 12 great-children complete her circle of family love. They are Ashley and Morgan Monette, twins Alejandro and Samuel Casaverde, Sofia Casaverde, Gabriel Casaverde, Amaru and Anahi Pineda, twins Nayan and Neil Casaverde, Ian and Brennan Casaverde; she is also survived by her sister, Doris Burdo; and her brother Clifford Boulerice. She was predeceased by her brother, George Boulerice; and her sister, Yvonne Grigware.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at M. B. Clark Funeral Home, Elm Street, Champlain. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Wednesday, at St. Mary's Church, Champlain. Gathering will be at the Knights of Columbus Hall after the services.
