MINNEAPOLIS — The Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team received 10-of-15 first-place votes to claim the top spot in this week’s USCHO.com Division III Women’s Poll.
The Cardinals, who enter the week with a 5-0-1 record, moved up one spot to overtake Norwich University. The Cadets received one first-place vote, dropping to No. 3 in the poll with a 5-1-2 mark on the year.
No. 2 Gustavus Adolphus and No. 4 Elmira each garnered two first-place votes. Middlebury, who will host Plattsburgh State on Sunday as part of the Panther/Cardinal Classic, remained at No. 5.
This week marks the Cardinals return to the top spot of the poll since March 1, 2010 when Plattsburgh completed a five-week reign as the top team in the country.
The USCHO.com Division III Women’s Poll is compiled weekly and consists of 15 voters, all coaches of Division III programs.
Plattsburgh State returns to action this weekend at the Annual Panther/Cardinal Classic. The Cardinals open the weekend against No. 8 Amherst Saturday at 1 p.m. before wrapping up the tournament against the Panthers Sunday at 4 p.m.
