Crown Point hurler turns in another gem

ELIZABETHTOWN — Alex Macey was virtually untouchable Monday afternoon as she spun a no-hitter in Crown Point’s 18-0 victory over Elizabethtown-Lewis in Mountain & Valley Athletic Conference softball.

The senior hurler struck out 12 and walked only two to complete her gem. Right-fielder Shelby McGuinness helped to preserve the no-hitter by making a nice running one-handed catch of Cheyenne Sousis’s line drive in the fifth.

Westport 16, Chazy 15

WESTPORT — A clutch seventh-inning hit by Felicia Kurth brought in the game-winning run, as Westport beat Chazy in a back-and-forth thriller.

In the bottom of the seventh, Chazy’s Paige Barcomb walked the first two batters. Kurth then knocked a line drive up the middle, which would have been at least a double if the winning run didn’t cross the plate.

Kurth finished the game going 3-for-5 with three singles and three RBI.

“We were hitting the ball fairly well today,” Westport coach Ike Tyler said. “The kids fought back and we prevailed in the end.”

Westport outhit Chazy 12-5, but Westport gave up 19 walks and committed six errors, which allowed Chazy to stay in the game.

In the seventh inning, Westport had three errors, which allowed Chazy to load the bases. Brendee Russell, though, was able to minimize the damage and only allowed one run in the inning, while striking out the final two batters.
