PLATTSBURGH — Nate Emery drove in three runs with a double and Garrett Manchester sparkled in relief as the Hornets avenged Friday’s walk-off loss to the Chiefs.
Emery’s big blow came with two outs in the fourth and Gerrit Rietsema followed with an RBI single to cap a five-run rally that put PHS up 6-2. Dan Hartman added an RBI base hit in the inning.
Saranac chipped away at the Hornets’ lead, closing to within one, on Matt McCasland’s RBI single in the sixth. Manchester then came on to induce a groundout for the second out of the inning and, with runners on second and third, got Durgan Zapalla to fly out to center.
Saranac threatened again in the seventh. Jake Griffin led off with a double, but Manchester saved it for the Hornets with a strikeout, an infield pop and a fly to left.
The game featured 25 hits with winning pitcher Robby Knowles going 3-for-3 for the Hornets (4-8, 3-4). Hartman, Alex Maston and Shawn Courson collected two apiece.
Caleb Keysor led Saranac’s 12-hit attack with three hits, including a two-run homer and a double. Tanner Rascoe, Kyle Erickson and McCasland each had two hits.
