FORT COVINGTON — The Blue Bombers overcame the brilliant goaltending of Becca Leroux to hand the host Shamrocks a 3-2 setback in girls’ hockey.

Leroux turned back 40 shots as Lake Placid held a 43-15 edge.

“It was a good win for us. It definitely was not easy,” Lake Placid Coach Sandy Huber said. “Their goalie (Leroux) was really good and very aggressive.

“She frustrated us a lot, but the girls didn’t up.”

Kendra Manning, who assisted on the first goal, scored the game-winner at 7:55 of the third period. She found the top right corner from in close with Brooke Reid assisting.

The line of Reid, Manning and freshman Samantha Barney accounted for all of the scoring. Reid put Lake Placid up 1-0 2:30 into the second period and Barney tallied unassisted at 3:16 of the third.

“That line has been working really well together,” Huber added. “They’re very unselfish and are moving the puck well.”

Tanner Stanton, another freshman, got the win in goal with 13 saves.

Lake Placid, 4-1, will host rival Saranac Lake at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
