Freshman lights it up for Moriah

Chateaugay wins big; Schroon Lake sweeps; Keene girls defeat Chazy

PORT HENRY — Freshman Adam Jaquish scored a game-high 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as the Moriah Vikings knocked off the visiting Red Storm of Saranac Lake 55-40 Monday night in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference boys’ basketball.

Mike Mero added 12 points for Moriah, while Derek Brassard finished with 11 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.

“We played well,” Vikings coach Brian Cross said. “Teddy (Yanchitis) is tough inside and the (Kevin) Morgan kid played well, too; he’s quick.

“We double-teamed (Yanchitis) in the post and played much better defensively, which got us some baskets in transition.”

Morgan led the way with 16 points for Saranac Lake, while Yanchitis tossed in 13.

CHATEAUGAY 63, COLTON-PIERREPONT 22

CHATEAUGAY — Owen Henderson got hot from beyond the arc, connecting on five 3-pointers to lead the Bulldogs past the Colts.

Chateaugay (3-3) connected on 13 3-pointers for the game.

Henderson finished with 15 points for the Bulldogs, while Noah Bowse added 14 points. Tyler Martin chipped in with 11 points, Chad Stalter had five steals and Devon Barnes grabbed five rebounds.

Zac Farr paced Colton-Pierrepont with eight points.

SCHROON LAKE — Jesse Shaughnessy tallied 12 of his game-high 28 points to spark the unbeaten Schroon Lake Wildcats to victory in a Mountain & Valley Athletic Conference makeup game.

Jeff Armstrong chipped in with 16 points and played a strong defensive game for the Wildcats (4-0). Bobby Rose contributed 11 points.

Caleb Hayes scored 10 points to lead Wells.

KEENE VALLEY — Naomi Peduzzi and Tucker Geiger each grabbed 15 rebounds as Keene dominated inside. Geiger also led all scorers with 15 while Peduzzi chipped in with 11.

Keene (5-1, 5-1) played good team defense while opening a 20-8 halftime lead.

Courtney Gilmore led Chazy with nine points.

SCHROON LAKE — The Wildcats outscored the Indians 19-10 in the second half to pull away for the victory.

Miranda DeZalia had a strong all-around game and led the way offensively with 12 points for Schroon Lake.

Clare Whitney added eight points and 13 rebounds, while Lindsay Reynolds had six points and 10 rebounds.

Bobbi Jo Page paced Wells with seven points.
