PSU cagers in final SUNYAC tuneup

PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh State men’s and women’s basketball teams will get one last tune-up before entering SUNY Athletic Conference play when they travel to Canton today to take on St. Lawrence University in non-conference play.

The women’s game begins at 6 p.m., followed by the men’s contest at 8 p.m.

It will be the first road game for the Cardinal men, who are 2-1 on the season. Plattsburgh last played two days ago in an 80-73 loss to No. 4-ranked Middlebury College at Memorial Hall.

St. Lawrence (0-2), which will be playing in its home opener, has only two games under its belt, with both coming in a tournament in Rochester. The Saints dropped contests to Merchant Marine (71-69) and Mount Saint Mary (61-47).

Meanwhile, the Cardinal women are 1-1 on the season following Sunday’s 81-73 home loss to Middlebury.

The St. Lawrence women (1-1), who will be playing their home opener, were also in Rochester for its first two games of the season, including a 79-55 loss to Rochester and an 80-77 victory over St. John Fisher.

After tonight’s games, the Cardinals will begin conference play on Friday and Saturday on the road. Plattsburgh will be at Oswego on Friday and in Cortland on Saturday. The women will play at 6 p.m. and the men at 8 p.m. both nights.
