FELONY ARREST

NORTH ELBA — A North Elba man was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance Sunday. 

Santos Salinas Jr., 49, who also has a residence in Phoenix, Ariz., was allegedly found to be in possession of approximately two ounces of crystal methamphetamine after an investigation by the New York State Police Narcotics Enforcement Unit, according to a State Police news release. 

Salinas was arraigned at the Town of North Elba Court and was remanded to Essex County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond. 

The State Police were assisted in the investigation by the Lake Placid Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration. 

PERSONAL-INJURY ACCIDENT

JAY — A Plattsburgh man was injured in a two-car accident April 10. 

At about 2:55 p.m., Joseph Leonard, 79, attempted to turn west onto Route 86 from a driveway, failing to observe another vehicle cresting a hill that was headed eastbound on Route 86, according to Wilmington-based State Police. 

The second vehicle was driven by Michael Keefe, 67, of Rutland, Vt.

Leonard was transported to CVPH Medical Center and then to Fletcher Allen Medical Center in Burlington, Vt., where he was treated and released, police said. 

No tickets were issued.
