Peru Central ID's key issues

PERU — The Peru Central School Planning Team’s first session focused on identifying key issues facing the district as part of the Peru 2020 strategic planning process.

“The first work item,” a press release said, “was to conduct an analysis of the district’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT Analysis).”

SWOT is a tool used to better understanding the current state of an organization and the internal and external factors that affect it, the release said.

“The team members then worked on identifying the top six key issues that need to be addressed with this strategic plan.

“After breaking up into two groups and then coming back together, the participants agreed that the key issues for the district are: communication, engaging/connecting with students, trust/building relationships, developing strengths, allocating resources and adapting to change.”

The volunteers also devised a vision statement: “Preparing Our Students for Success.”

And they reviewed the district’s mission statement, deciding it fits well with the new vision statement.

So it remains, unaltered, in place, the release said.

Next, the Planning Team and its five subcommittees will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 19, in the cafeteria.

“The session was intentionally scheduled to occur as soon as possible after the first meeting of the Planning Team held on June 12, in order to maintain the momentum and focus on the goals of the planning project,” the release said.

Committee meetings will be facilitated by CITEC strategic planning experts, the release said, “in order to identify opportunities and develop the ideal ways to realize those, with a final plan prepared for PCSD to begin acting on later this year.”

Volunteers can still step up to serve on a Peru 2020 subcommittee, which are: Achievement, Innovation, Well-being, Sustainability and Connection.

To do so, send your name, mailing address, phone number and email address, along with committee preference, to or via regular mail to Superintendent Patrick Brimstein, Peru Central School District, 17 School St., Peru NY 12972.

Or those interested can call 643-6004.
