---- — LAKE PLACID — The USA Women’s National Team set their roster for the 2013 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Women’s Championships, held this year in Ottawa.
Plattsburgh native Kelley Steadman was one of the 23 players named to the team, which is made up of three goalies, seven defensemen, and 13 forwards. Members of the national team range in ages from 18-31.
The 22 year-old forward, attended Northwood School in Lake Placid, where she also played lacrosse, soccer and crew.
Steadman then attended Mercyhurst College, where she played collegiately for four years.
The USA roster was finalized March 30, after running a selection camp that took place in Lake Placid and started on March 25. Team USA departed for Ottawa on Monday.
Steadman made the Under-18 USA World Championship Team in 2008, and then became the first Mercyhurst player to make the USA National team in 2011.
The U.S finds themselves in a tough preliminary group, which includes Finland, Switzerland, and defending champion Canada.
Group B includes, Russia, Germany, Sweden and the Czech Republic.
The red, white and blue were able to make it to the Gold Medal Championship game last April against the Canadians, but fell short.
The preliminary round begins this week as team USA starts international play today against the defending champs. The U.S will then play Finland April 3, and conclude group play with Switzerland on April 5.
Quarterfinals and Semifinal games will be held on April 6 and 8, and the Bronze and Gold Medal Games will be held on April 9.
