The Barracks to open on Thursday

PLATTSBURGH — The Barracks Golf Course will open for the season on Thursday. Early-season hours for the clubhouse are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Siberian Rod, Gun meeting tonight

PLATTSBURGH — The Siberian Rod & Gun Club will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the clubhouse.

Maynard to speak at TU meeting

PLATTSBURGH — Lake Champlain Trout Unlimited will feature local and noted angler Mickey Maynard as its speaker at 7 p.m. on April 16. The meeting will be held at Gander Mountain in the Champlain Centre Mall.

Maynard is the proprietor of the Lake Champlain Angler and a local charter captain. He will speak on his adventures of fishing for fresh- and salt-water species in Florida this past winter.

The event is free and all are welcome.

Treehouse 10k to be held on the Saranac River Trail

PLATTSBURGH — The City of Plattsburgh Recreation Department and the Saranac River Trail committee will host a 5K and 10K on Saturday May 11, at 9 a.m. All proceeds will go toward building of the Max Moore Memorial Treehouse that will be erected near Pine Street.

The route will begin on Durkee Street and lead to the Saranac River Trail. Participants will run the full length of the trail and continue to the SUNY Plattsburgh field house where they will take a lap around the Fieldhouse and head back to the starting point on Durkee Street for the 10K portion of the race. For the 5K portion, participants will follow the same route, but will turn around at Kent Hall on the SUNY Plattsburgh Campus.

On the day of the race, Check-in will begin at 8 a.m. and the race will start at 9 a.m.

Participants have the option of choosing either to participate in the 5K or the 10K and can walk or run in the race. All participants will receive a race hat and have access to the after-party held at the finish line.
