PHS uses long ball to stem Storm

SARANAC LAKE — Saranac Lake held high-scoring Marle Curle in check, but had their hands full with the rest of Plattsburgh in the Hornets’ 53-34 victory in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference girls’ basketball Monday.

“They (PHS) definitely had the 3-ball working for them tonight,” Red Storm coach Dave Zerrahn said, after watching the Hornets sink nine from long range.

Brin Keyser led Plattsburgh with 15 points while Curle finished with 12, well below her season norm of 23 a contest. Olivia Carlsson nailed three 3-pointers.

Katy Buckley scored 12 points to lead Saranac Lake.

The two teams will meet again tonight in Plattsburgh in the regularly scheduled contest.

Elizabethtown-Lewis 69, Johnsburg 23

JOHNSBURG— Lily Whalen led the way for the Lions with 19 points, 10 rebounds and five steals in Elizabethtown-Lewis’ dominating victory over the Jaguars.

The Lions maintained control throughout the game as they outscored Johnsburg in all four quarters.

Four players hit double digits in rebounds for the Lions as Jasmin Barnes, Whalen and Savanah Graves each finished with 10, while Kearstin Ashline recorded 11.

Ashline added 13 points and Kylee Cassavaugh, 10.

Crystal Grady also contributed for Elizabethtown-Lewis, finsihing with six steals, three assists and four points.

Astasia Myler was the leading scorer for the Jaguars with 10 points.
