Supports

Dixon

TO THE EDITOR: “In a single sporting event, one can observe the good, the bad and the ugly of all that our society has to offer.” Donna Dixon once told me this, and I see now she wasn’t referring to sports alone.

As I do feel sympathy for the obvious state of degradation that CCC is in, I write this letter to implore them to stop being so interested in ruining the lives of those known vicariously for their dedication and convictions and instead to be concerned with those people dear to our hearts.

Donna makes positive impacts. She financially supports team-building exercises when the college doesn’t have the budget. She organizes fundraising efforts for breast cancer without a thought for herself. She supports others without expectation of anything in return. She’s the best thing that ever happened to CCC or the community.

Knowing that the board is cutting a person like her to fill her position with someone for a lower price tag has little or nothing to do with measuring the value or quality of our lives and the lives of future students and athletes.

You can expect outcry from the community beyond belief. There are so many people behind Donna, and we love her. It’s not just Coach Dixon that this has happened to at CCC, and, quite frankly, I only wish it were practical to recall every last one of the board members making these decisions and start over with some who care and made cuts in the right places to begin with.

I hope you realize the downgrades that may come with your decisions. Donna is more than just a coach at CCC, and I couldn’t dream up a better mentor or inspiration for other young people like myself.
