---- — PLATTSBURGH — Michael S. Bond is in good spirits in a Boston hospital after losing the four fingers on his left hand in a car accident.
Following the crash on Interstate 87 on Sept. 18 in the Town of AuSable, law-enforcement officials had said his entire hand was amputated when his Toyota Tundra pickup truck left the road and rolled several times.
He was heading home to Plattsburgh from a doctor’s appointment in Albany, according to his daughter, Jordanne Bond, and possibly fell asleep at the wheel.
“He’s doing well,” she said Monday.
Mr. Bond, who works at Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, will be starting rehabilitation soon in Boston, learning to how to cope with just a thumb on his left hand, she said.
Her father is right-handed, she said.
Mr. Bond, 52, was taken to CVPH Medical Center for treatment, then airlifted to the Boston hospital.
Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, police said.
