P'burgh Housing rates high in inspection

PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh Housing Authority earned high marks in a recent inspection, and that could bring more funding.

On Aug. 30, a Real Estate Assessment Center physical inspection was performed by a third-party inspector of the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development, a press release said.

The process included a thorough inspection of a computer-generated random sample of 335 Plattsburgh Housing Authority units. 

It also took in the buildings, building systems, grounds, common areas and parking lots of the authority’s John Collins Park, John Collins Park Extension, Thomas Conway Apartments and Leander A. Bouyea Court properties. 

Scoring for housing authorities starts at 100 points, with points deducted for each deficiency.

The Plattsburgh Housing Authority was notified on Sept. 17 that it had scored 99a. 

The previous score for the same inspection set was 85. The 14-point increase is reflected in the Public Housing Assessment System score, a portion of what HUD uses to determine funding.

So, the release said, the physical-inspection score could result in more funding through grant opportunities and a higher allocation of capital funds. 

“The Plattsburgh Housing Authority Board of Commissioners, executive director and staff are committed to maintaining safe affordable housing for all its residents and continue to work diligently to improve the quality of life for those whom we serve,” the release said.
