Constitution Day rally today
PLATTSBURGH — A Constitution Day rally about the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership is scheduled for today at 6 p.m. in the open space called the Greenway in downtown Plattsburgh next to ROTA gallery at 50 Margaret St.
Parking is in the city parking lot behind the Greenway on Durkee Street.
The rally is for anyone concerned over the legislative mechanism called Fast Track and the free-trade proposal known as TPP — or who has never heard of it, organizer Mary Alice Shemo said in a press release.
The connection between the two is that Fast Track shifts the control of trade for the TPP “free trade” agreement to the Executive Branch, whereas the U.S. Constitution places it with Congress.
“If passed,” Shemo said, “the TPP would substantially undermine the sovereignty of every country that’s part of it, including the USA.”
