Ernest (Ernie) DuRoss

PORT HENRY — Ernest (Ernie) DuRoss, 78, of 4349 Main St., Port Henry, N.Y., died on Sunday, March 24, at CVPH Medical Center. He was born in Port Henry, N.Y., on May 27, 1934, the son of Ernest DuRoss and Mary (Kingdollar) DuRoss.

He attended Port Henry High School. He went to work for Republic Steel Corporation. He served in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1959. Upon retuning to Port Henry he went to work for the Grand Union Co., where he was employed as a Grocery Manager. He retired from Gand Union in 1996.

He was a member of the Port Henry Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Port Henry Fire Dept. for 36 years where he served as Treasurer for most of those years.

Ernie spent time working hard, tending his yard. His pride for his home and true love for his family and dear friends shined in his eyes and his great smile.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Linda Gadway DuRoss; daughter, Julie Ferguson DuRoss, her husband Thomas Ferguson, the lights of his life Oliver Thomas Ferguson and Ava Ferguson. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Dorothy Rasmussen and her husband John, brothers-in-law Kenneth Gadway and wife Debbie, Kevin Gadway and wife Marlene, sister-in-law Nancy LaMour and her husband Robert and very special nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by Joanne Maffey DuRoss; father and mother, Ernest and Mary Kingdollar DuRoss; brothers, Elmer and Fred DuRoss; sisters, Marion (DuRoss) Kimball, Anna (DuRoss) Eubar; sister-in-law, Florence DuRoss; brother-in-law, Earl Kimball; nephews, Elmer DuRoss Jr., Brian DuRoss, Leon DuRoss and George DuRoss.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 27 at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at St. Patrick's Church in Port Henry. Burial will be at a later date in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Moriah.
