Road Construction Roundup: Nov. 3, 2009



PLATTSBURGH — The 2009 road-construction season is continuing.

General maintenance projects are going on around the North Country. Crews are ditching, mowing, sweeping, washing bridges, cleaning culverts and doing guard-rail work.

Here's a look at some of the major road work being done:

CLINTON COUNTY
Silver Lake Road Bridge, Black Brook: The contract to replace the bridge has been awarded to Luck Brothers Inc. Construction will begin next April and be completed in 2010. The structure will be closed to traffic, with a detour in place, throughout construction.

Narrows Road Bridge, Ellenburg: The contract has been awarded to Sheehan Construction. Work will begin in April and is scheduled for completion by July. The structure will be closed to traffic during the duration of construction. During the actual closure, the contractor is responsible for signing the appropriate detour.

Tom Miller Road, Plattsburgh: The bridge over Interstate 87 is bring replaced. Exercise caution when moving through the work zone. Completion is November 2010.

Route 9N, Black Brook: Road construction is taking place in the hamlet of AuSable Forks. Expect delays.

City of Plattsburgh
Cornelia and Broad streets: Traffic-signal modifications will be taking place. Once these are completed, drivers on westbound Cornelia Street will be able to turn left into the new Walgreen's, where currently no left turn is allowed. Also, some work will be done on the signal at Prospect Avenue. Drivers are urged to use special care as everyone adapts to this change.

ESSEX COUNTY
Sunset Drive, Willsboro: Closed due to road collapse.

Stowersville Road, Lewis: The road is closed east of I-87. No through traffic is allowed.

Creek Road, Crown Point: Guiderail work is being done. Use caution.

Interstate 87, North Hudson to AuSable: Milling and paving operations in each direction. Right-lane closures around the clock from exit 29 to 34. Completion is November 2010.

Lake Champlain Bridge, Crown Point: The bridge is closed to all traffic. Travelers must use either the Essex or Ticonderoga ferries or drive to Whitehall to get to Vermont.

Route 86, Jay: Paving is complete, but shoulder work and driveway paving will be taking place for about two miles from Jay to the Wilmington town line. Some delays.

Route 9N, Moriah and Westport: Paving is done, but shoulder work and driveway paving is being done on six miles from Moriah to Westport. Some delays.

Route 9N, Village of Port Henry: Drainage work has begun. Work will continue at least through Wednesday. Use caution. Some delays.

FRANKLIN COUNTY
Willow Street Bridge, Village of Malone. Closed for replacement. Detour in place. Completion expected around November.

Keese Mills Road Bridge, Brighton: The bridge is closed for replacement. Detour in place.

Route 11 bridge, Village of Malone: Repairs are being done on the bridge over the Salmon River. There will be some periodic lane closures, with traffic restricted to a single lane in each direction. Some delays.
