You can look back over the last 70 years at some of the area athletes and personalities who made headlines in area sports. Flashback will revive memories of great local athletes and outstanding team successes.Lakers U12 team wins division WINOOSKI, Vt. — The Lake Champlain Lakers girls U12 AAU basketball team won its division in the Vermont Lightning Tournament over the weekend, finishing 4-0.
The Lakers beat the Massachusetts Jaguars, 34-31, the New Hampshire Bombers, 44-33, the North Central Blaze 34-31, and the Vermont Rebels 30-29.
The team, coached by Kate Duprey, finished the season 16-6.
Team Members include Emily Anderson, Olivia Barnaby, Kaitlyn Bowman, Rachel Covey, Grace Kelly, Magan Magee, Caitlin Miller, Maria Remillard Shannon Ryan, and Taylor Saltus.
Town of Plattsburgh's Sports Fun Camps begin
PLATTSBURGH — The Town of Plattsburgh's Sports Fun Camps began this week.
The first week, beginning June 29 and running through July 2 will feature tennis.
Each session will be two hours and filled with learning the basics of the activity and then practicing with some friendly competition.
The camps will be held at the following two Town of Plattsburgh Recreation Parks each week for six weeks: Everest Rabideau Park in Cumberland Head from 9 to 11 a.m., and at East Morrisonville Recreation Park from noon to 2 p.m.
Next week is archery week, which is a drop-in program so pre-registration is not necessary.
All equipment will be provided and there is no charge for any of these camps.

Upstate NY Spring Football Bowl July 5
PLATTSBURGH — On July 5 at Melissa Penfield Park, the Upstate NY Spring Football League will be holding an Upstate NY Spring Football Bowl with teams from Canada, which will include a full day of tackle football and activities to celebrate International Relations with Canada.
The participants will be players from the Plattsburgh Panthers, Malone Thunder Lightning (sponsored by Personal Touch), Taigua and Cornwall, Ont. The Bowl will be a celebration of two countries playing football and displaying sportsmanship at the Junior Varsity and Varsity levels.
There will be a full concession with Bazzano's providing pizza and wings. There will be admission for everyone but the players and coaches of $4 for ages 10-and-over and $2 for anyone under 10-years-old.
All proceeds will go to the Upstate NY Spring Football League.
Local radio voices Jim Amorelli and Craig Mathews will be doing the public address broadcasting during the All-Star Games.
Also, Nathaniel Marshall will be singing the Canadian and United States National Anthems and performing two songs at half time of the Varsity All-Star Game.
Swimming program schedule announced
PLATTSBURGH — Bus transportation for the Town of Plattsburgh's swimming lesson program will begin June 29 for swimming instruction for children from North Plattsburgh, Treadwells Mills, Cumberland Head and South Plattsburgh.
All areas will be bused to the East Morrisonville Beach for instruction Monday-Friday.
Instructions will be held from 12 noon to 2 p.m. for these areas with bus pick-ups and times as follows:
Cumberland Head - 11:30 am - Corner of Sears Blvd. and Moffett Rd., the Recreation Park, Cumberland Bay Market, Corner of Allen Rd. and Cumberland Head Rd., St. Mary's Church, Gus' Red Hots and Tara Lane.
North Plattsburgh - 11:15 am - May Currier Park, Corners of Facteau Avenue, Melody Lane, Graves Lane and Tom Miller Road; Corners of Wallace Hill Rd. and Michelle and Daytona Blvd.; Corners of Wallace Hill Rd and Bell Rd., Vintage Estates and Rasco Rd.; the corner of Military Turnpike and Independence Dr.; and the corner of Wallace Hill Road Extension and Nightengale Drive.
South Plattsburgh - 11:25 am — Corner of South Junction Road and Rt. 22, Corner of Salmon River Road and Rt. 22,Rt. 22 and LTS Homes, Corner of Irish Settlement Road and Pleasant Ridge Road, entrance to Abenaki Trailer Court and Corner of Runway Dr. & Rt. 22.
Treadwells Mills - 11:30 am - in front of Pine Rest Trailer Court, the Recreation Park, Brown Road, Cross Road and the entrances to Rugar Park.
Lessons will also be offered at the Cadyville Beach from 2-3 p.m.
Parents must provide transportation to this beach.
Children in all areas may still register by attending the first day of lessons, during which they will be tested for ability and enrolled in an appropriate level class.
Town of Schuyler Falls children may also enroll in classes at Cadyville or East Morrisonville.
Anyone seeking further information about the swimming program may call the Town Recreation Department, at 562-6860 weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Wellness Center athletic camp begins July 6
PLATTSBURGH — The Wellness Center at PARC will be hosting an athletic camp for athletes running weekly from July 6-Aug. 13.
This program allows for four classes per week and is designed to educate and apply basic-to-advanced training techniques in order to enhance athletic performance in sports.
These training techniques have also been shown to decrease the chances of injury. Skills learned will be general in nature and can be applied to a variety of different sport-specific situations. The skills include: linear acceleration, lateral acceleration, deceleration, reaction, speed, power, cutting techniques, coordination, mobility, and strength.
Proper strength training form will be taught as well. Movement patterns will be assessed by the instructors on the first day of the program in order to determine each athlete's initial skill level. Athlete's movement patterns will be visually assessed in an ongoing effort throughout the program.
Cost will be $100 a week for non-Wellness Center members. For Wellness Center members and for Wellness Center member's children, the cost is $75 a week.
There will be a $50 discount when three consecutive weeks are purchased and a $100 discount when all six weeks are purchased.
The Age limit for this year's camp is 14-18. In the future, this age bracket may expand to include college athletes.

Instructors:
Ted Santaniello, BA, CSCS, AFAA, Level 1 T&F- Ted currently is the Fitness Director at the Wellness Center at PARC and has worked with athletes of all ages. He previously worked along side Lee Taft, a sports speed expert and is a former SUNY Plattsburgh Track and Field Standout, former Plattsburgh State track and field sprints coach nd taught a Strength and Cardio PED class at Plattsburgh State.
Chris Verkey- Chris is the Saranac Central School Track and Field coach and gym instructor. He holds several records at Plattsburgh State, as well as a national title in the 400 meter Hurdles. Chris is also working towards his master's degree at Cortland University.
Lake Champlain Lakers U15 finish season
WINOOSKI, Vt. — The Lake Champlain Lakers U15 Team went 0-4 this past weekend at the Vermont Lightning tournament.
In the first game Malone won 42-38 with Rachelle Barcomb and Kelly Kezar scoring 9 points.
In the second game the Vermont Lightning won 56-41 with Rachelle Barcomb scoring 15 and Alexis Facteau scoring 8.
In the third game the Mass Frenzy won 62-33 with Alex Casey and Emily Manchester scoring 7.
In the last game Sunyouth beat the Lakers 43-38 with Kayla Taylor Alexis Facteau and Kelly Kezar all scoring 11.
The team finished the season at 15-9.
YMCA/Jeffords golf tourney August 28
PLATTSBURGH — The 8th-Annual Plattsburgh YMCA/Jeffords Steel Golf Tournament has been scheduled for August 28.
The format will be a four-person scramble. There will be a 1 p.m. shotgun start at The Barracks Golf Course.
Play will be followed by dinner and prizes to be awarded. In addition to prizes for low gross and net scores, there will be prizes for longest drive (men and women), closest to the pin (men and women) and a putting contest. Random prizes will also be awarded.
The entry fee is $60 for members of The Barracks Golf Course and $70 for non-members.
