Some beef sold at Hannaford being recalled
PLATTSBURGH — Hannaford is urging its customers to check for beef that is possibly contaminated with E. coli 0157:H7 bacterium.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service has recalled beef products made by JBS Swift Beef Co. of Greely, Colo.

Hannaford was notified Sunday that its stores may have received some of those products. Customers should look for fresh beef cuts and ground beef with sell-by dates between April 28 and June 6.

The store will provide a refund for beef products purchased in its stores during those dates.

E. coli 0157:H7 is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause bloody diarrhea, dehydration and, in the most severe cases, kidney failure. The very young, seniors and people with weak immune systems are the most susceptible to food-borne illness.

Customers can also call the JBS Swift Company hotline at 1-800-685-6328.

Boil-water order lifted in Port Kent
PORT KENT — The boil-water order has been lifted for Port Kent in the Town of Chesterfield.

However, the Chesterfield Town Council has asked for a restriction of water use in Port Kent Water District 1, due to a limited water supply.

Lake Placid School Board meets tonight
LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid School Board will meet at 7 tonight at the Administrative Services Center, 50 Cummings Road, Lake Placid.

The board will hold an executive session to discuss the employment history of specific personnel.

Jay Town Clerk's Office adjusts days
JAY — The Town of Jay town clerk's office will be closed on Saturdays from July 4 until Sept. 12.

If you need the town clerk between Friday and Monday, call 946-7782 to set up an appointment.
