PLATTSBURGH -- The mother of a 7-week-old baby who was allegedly severely beaten by the father was sentenced to jail time Monday.
Heather Bouyea was sentenced in Clinton County Court to six months in the County Jail and five years of probation.
Bouyea, 22, was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child.
She pleaded guilty to the felony charge earlier this year.
Her daughter, Jasmine Lagoy, was allegedly severely beaten last December by her boyfriend, Byron A. Lagoy, who lived with Bouyea in Ellenburg and is the baby's father.
Bouyea was charged because she did not seek immediate medical help for the infant and for lying to medical personnel about what happened.
Lagoy, 23, has been indicted on charges of second-degree attempted murder and first-degree reckless endangerment.
The baby was taken to Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington with multiple serious injuries. She has since been released to the custody of the Department of Social Services.
An order of protection keeping Bouyea away from the baby was also issued Monday.
