Area hockey team wins Vermont tourney
PLATTSBURGH -- The USA Metro Select 98's AAA hockey team, consisting of local players from Chazy,
Plattsburgh, Lake Placid and Malone, went undefeated in winning the championship of the Green Mountain Avalanche AAA Spring Showdown tournament over the weekend.
The Selects defeated the Connecticut Rangers, 3-2, the Barre Quarry Dogs, 4-3, the
Connecticut Islanders, 4-1, enroute to the final where they defeated the Vermont, 3-1.
Players for The USA Metro Selects include Dan Bridgeman, Joey Brown, Brendan Davison, Chase Dixon, Alex Fisher, Kevin Fisher, Alex Gonyo, Kyler Head, Jalen Laboy, Tanner Morrow, Michael Parent, Collin Recore, Wade Weeden and Chris Williams.
Dannemora Fun Golf to begin May 8
PLATTSBURGH -- The Dannemora Fun Golf League will begin its season Thursday at Bluff Point Golf Resort. Tee times are not required; golfing will begin between 2:20-3 p.m.
Barracks Ladies begin with dinner tonight
PLATTSBURGH -- The Barracks Ladies League will open its season today with a dinner at 6 p.m. at the clubhouse. The first play day for the 40-meter golf league will be Thursday.
Debbie Garrand has been elected league president, Eleanor Lahtinen, vice president; Joan Saunders, treasurer; and Debbie Michelucci, secretary. Larie Waddy is the recording secretary with Stasia Arcarese in charge of play days.
ADK plans planetarium, waterfalls visits
PLATTSBURGH -- The Algonquin Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club has three outings scheduled for this week. The public is invited to take part in any or all of the excursions.
Wednesday, the final Walk About Town of the season is planned. Meet at 3 p.m. on the steps of City Hall for an hour's walk around a Plattsburgh neighborhood. Leashed dogs are welcome.
Friday, the ADK invites members and the public to visit the North Country Planetarium for a "Preview of Late Spring and Early Summer". It will be a live tour of the skies of the coming season with constellation and deep sky telescopic objects shown as they will appear in the actual sky as well as telescopic and spacecraft views.
