The Red Storm then took a 2-1 advantage with 2:02 gone in the third on Bradley Shumway’s power-play goal, only to have Savage force overtime four minutes later, at 6:24.

Blake Darrah made 30 saves in net for Saranac Lake (3-2-3, 1-1-1), while Jeffrey Smith posted 20 stops for Lake Placid (7-2-1, 1-1-1).

“It was a great atmosphere, just like a playoff game,” said Saranac Lake coach Will Ellsworth. “There were a lot of fans at the game and they were into it. It could have gone either way.

“I felt we played very well because our last game was 18 days ago. We have been fighting some injuries and the break gave us some time to get healthier. Our kids gave a great effort.”
