Saranac Lake Winter Carnival starting up

SARANAC LAKE — The 2014 Saranac Lake Winter Carnival starts today and runs through Feb. 15, with a Celtic theme.

Here’s a look at the schedule ($ indicates an entry fee, cover charge or cost for food or purchases, though no specific amounts were provided):


5:30 p.m.: 15th-annual Past Royalty Mixer and Dinner, Red Fox Restaurant, $, call 891-1286 for reservations.

3 p.m.: North Country Community College training for Fry Pan and Snowball Toss, NCCC Soccer Field, across from Sparks Athletic Facility.


4 p.m.: High Tea, Left Bank Café, $.

7 to 9 p.m.: Theresa Hartford performs, Left Bank Café.

7:30 p.m.: Women’s Civic Chamber Coronation of Winter Carnival Royalty, Harrietstown Town Hall; after the coronation, Winter Carnival Royalty Reception, Waterhole Upstairs music lounge, cash bar. Yard Sale performs.

8 p.m. to 2 a.m.: Free Juke Box, Captain Cook’s Bar & Grill.

10:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.: Cosmic Bowling Dance Party with DJ Funky Cold Medina, Romano’s Saranac Lanes.


9 a.m.: First Humble Pie Chess Tournament (USCF-rated event, USCF membership required). Registration followed by event at 10 a.m., Saranac Village at Will Rogers.

10 a.m.: NBT Bank Ice Palace Fun Run, 4 miles, Ice Palace, State Boat Launch.

10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Lutheran Church Women’s Craft Sale, Harrietstown Town Hall, $.

11 a.m.: Casella Curling Exhibition, Lake Flower near the Ice Palace; and Paul Smith’s College Woodsmen’s Exhibition, Riverside Park.

11 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Petrova Winter Carnival, Petrova Elementary School cafeteria, $.

12:30 p.m.: Taylor Rental Ladies’ Fry Pan Toss, Riverside Park, $, register at event.

2:30 p.m.: Women’s Civic Chamber “Great Celtic Treasure Quest” Treasure Hunt, follow the clues, Riverside Park, $.

4 p.m.: High Tea, Left Bank Café, $; and Inisheer performs at Harrietstown Town Hall, sponsored by the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce.
