---- — PLATTSBURGH — Get your skate on at the “Holiday Spectacular Show” presented by the Skating Club of the Adirondacks Saturday.
“There are only three layers to our show,” said Betty Vincencio, club president.
“The Skating Club members all skate a few group numbers from all the levels of our Skate With Us program, our learn-to-skate program administered by the rules and regulations of the U.S. Figure Skating Association.”
Gayle Roy Collin is the club’s skating pro. Program participants range in age from 3 to in their 60s.
“Last year, I had one woman almost 70,” Vincencio said. “We have the youth program and the adult program. It really spans the generations.”
The skaters’ routines are choreographed to Christmas music.
“Our advanced-skating group, in the number of 22 girls, will also be skating three group numbers. Plus the higher-level advanced skaters are all doing duos and trios choreographed to Christmas music,” she said.
The show’s second layer features the Plattsburgh High School Select Vocal Ensemble singing three selections, including the introduction to the show.
“For one of the numbers, the higher-level advanced skaters will skate a number to the Vocal Ensemble. The skaters and singers are on the ice,” Vincencio said. “The third layer of the show, we have the one and only genuine Santa and Mrs. Claus ... making an appearance. I got the real deal. My little kids are going to be so excited. We’re going to spring them out in the middle of show and put them on a throne on the ice.”
Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit with the youngsters afterward.
“It’s not a very long show, 45 minutes to an hour,” Vincencio said. “We’re opening up the ice for open skate. Skate rentals are available. We invite family members of the skaters and any audience member (to) skate. Last year, we had a huge group of people on the ice. It’s nice. It’s a family-fun afternoon.”
