POTSDAM — In a rematch of last season’s Upstate Girl’s Hockey League championship game the score was again 2-1.
This time, thought, it was Beekmantown that came away victorious over Potsdam.

Katie Matott scored an unassisted goal at the 7:33 mark of the third period to break a 1-all tie and keep the Eagles (4-0) undefeated on the season.
“Potsdam has been doing very well,” Beekmantown coach Ray Guay said. “Last year we met them in the finals … these two teams always come out to play each other. It’s a really good rival match — especially in their barn.”
Emily Raville opened the game’s scoring with a goal at the 10:22 mark of the first period with Matott credited with the assist.
The game would remain 1-0 until the Sandstoners’ Megan Plumb tied it at one with 4:30 remaining in the second period. Megan Stevenson picked up the assist.
“My girls came out strong in the first,” Guay said. “We took a step back in the second, but in the third we came out strong again and were able to put it together.
“We were strong offensively, but we struggled defensively. The 20 shots is the most we have received this season. Kayleigh (Bell) stood up to the test.”
Bell finished with 19 saves in net for Beekmantown. Allie Compeau stopped 14 shots in the loss for Potsdam.
“This was a good tune up for the St. Albans’ tournament this weekend,” Guay said. “The tempo there will be as good if not better.”
