The South Plattsburgh Fire Department responded with its air truck and more city firefighters were called to the Cornelia Street station for standby.
It appeared there was both interior and exterior damage to the building.
PLATTSBURGH — A Plattsburgh man faces felony charges following an alleged domestic dispute.
Plattsburgh City Police arrested Derek Barse, 32, at 112 Oak St. at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
He was charged with second-degree strangulation and two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies, as well as third-degree assault, second-degree unlawful imprisonment and fourth-degree criminal mischief, all misdemeanors.
A Plattsburgh woman reported Barse, police said.
She returned home after a night at local bars and a shouting match ensued between she and Barse as she was sitting by her computer desk, police said.
According to police, the woman said Barse approached her and flipped the desk over causing some of its contents to strike her.
She then ran into the kitchen where Barse followed and restrained her wrists to her side, preventing her from reaching for the phone to call for help, police said.
After she broke free and tried to flee, Barse grabbed her by the hair and shoved her against the door, police said.
Police said Barse proceeded to squeeze her throat, letting go before she almost blacked out and ran to the bathroom, where she locked herself in and called police.
