Franklin County public forums to focus on new state SAFE Act

MALONE — Franklin County has scheduled two public forums on the new state SAFE Act.

The first is set for 6 to 9 p.m. today at Malone Middle School on Webster Street, and the second is 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, at the Harrietstown Town Hall in Saranac Lake.

The meetings are not a rally in favor of or opposing the SAFE Act, according to a press release, but rather educational events that will provide information on the new gun law and how it will affect individuals and government agencies.

Speakers will include Franklin County Board of Legislators Chairman Billy Jones, Sheriff Kevin Mulverhill, Acting County Clerk Kip Cassavaw and representatives from mental-health care, local gun dealers and fish-and-game clubs.

An investigator from the State Police Gun Unit will also answer questions about individual weapons.

After the presentation, the panel will be open to questions from the audience.

For information, contact the sheriff at 483-3304.
