Event to feature cars, coffee, fashion

PLATTSBURGH — For three hours on Saturday, April 26, the unusual mix of cars, coffee and clothes will take center stage along Margaret Street in downtown Plattsburgh.

Cars, Coffee and Fashion is a free networking event for car enthusiasts and anyone who owns a classic car, said Marek Lyzwinski, coordinator for this inaugural local event.

People who own classic cars will be able to park along Margaret Street, showing them off to the public, as well as other owners.

“This is not a car show; this is a networking event,” Lyzwinski said. “People come to see what others have, in terms of their cars. They want to photograph their cars, and they want to talk cars.

“This is one of the hobbies that’s most common in this part of New York.”

Lyzwinski said he decided to start Cars, Coffee and Fashion after a friend told him about a similar event in Irvine, Calif.

While the idea of showing off classic cars remains the same, there are differences between this event and the one in California. For example, the event will begin at 7 a.m. here instead of 6 a.m., with the intention of giving the people more time to sleep.

And this one encourages all participants to make an effort to dress up for the occasion, perhaps in the style of the era their car was made.

“It would be super OK for them to come in T-shirts and shorts, but if they really want to show off a little bit and to address the topic of their car, that would be fine,” Lyzwinski said.

Because the event does not involve closing down the street, Lyzwinski said he did not need to get permission from the city first.

However, he decided that, as a courtesy, he would notify Mayor James Calnon about the event anyway.
