Carried out by State Police, the road block will begin approximately 1 mile from the work site.

Motorists should expect minor delays and plan accordingly.

Plattsburgh City Council to make key appointments

PLATTSBURGH — The City of Plattsburgh Common Council will make three key appointments at tonight’s meeting.

Among them will be Sylvia Parrotte as the new city clerk, effective May 5; Dean Schneller as corporation counsel, effective April 25, 2014, to Jan. 31, 2017; and Randal Stone as fire chief, effective April 25.

Parrotte will replace Keith Herkalo, who retired earlier this year, and Schneller will replace John Clute, who stepped down earlier this year.

Stone, the assistant chief, has been overseeing the department since May of 2012. The department has been without a chief since Paul Williams retired in May of 2011.

Police Chief Desmond Racicot oversaw the department after Williams left until May of 2012 as the city and firefighter’s union were engaged in a battle over the qualifications for new chief candidates.

A judge ruled in favor of the union last year, allowing in-house candidates such as Stone to be considered for chief.

Tonight’s meeting begins with a work session at 5 p.m., followed by the regular meeting at 5:30 p.m.

Both meetings are open to the public.

CROWN POINT — The Crown Point School Board will hold a special meeting at 7:45 a.m. today in the Superintendent’s Office for the purpose of voting on the Champlain Valley Educational Services Board candidates and budget and to hear any other items that come before the board.
