Boil-water order in Saranac Lake

SARANAC LAKE — A water-main break on Lake Flower Avenue here necessitated a boil-water order on Wednesday afternoon for water customers in the following areas of the village: Lake Flower Avenue from Winona Avenue toward Lake Placid, including all side streets — Center Street, Merrill Street, Santanoni Avenue, Colony Court, Meadow Lane, Crossfield Road, Duprey Street, Edward Street, Cortez Lane, Turtle Pond Road, Will Rogers Road — and also North Country Community College.

"Do not drink the water before boiling it," the Essex County Department of Emergency Services said in a statement.

That includes water used for cooking, washing dishes and brushing teeth, as well.

"Bring all water to a boil in a clean container, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using," the release said.

Or use bottled water.

The Health Department order was issued as a precaution because of a drop in water line pressures and loss of water because of the water-main break.

It won't be lifted until repairs are complete and two consecutive daily samples show no bacteriological contamination.
