PLATTSBURGH — The Fourth Ward A’s and Peabody’s Padres played to a 4-4 tie Wednesday in a Champlain Valley Baseball League makeup game.
The game was suspended in the eighth inning due to darkness and will not be continued unless it’s needed for playoff seedings.
The Padres took a 4-0 lead after scoring two runs in the first and fourth innings. But then the A’s plated four unearned runs in the top of the fifth to tie it.
The Padres loaded the bases in the sixth inning but couldn’t score. The A’s had a chance to break the tie in the eighth when their leadoff hitter got on base, but the next batter hit into a double play and the Padres then got out of the inning.
Shane Perotte hit a double for the A’s, and Mike Howard added two singles. Tyler Mesec started on the mound, and Joe Kirkpatrick pitched the last three innings, allowing just one hit.
Jeff Norton and Mike Ormsby each had two hits for the Padres. Frank Brogna pitched the first five innings, and Kalob Drollette gave up three hits and no runs as he finished the game.
