MOOERS — Two Mooers residents have been charged with welfare fraud.

Charles N. LaFountain, 31, and Rosemarie A. LaFountain, 29, were both charged with first-degree offering a false instrument for filing and third-degree welfare fraud, both felonies.

It is alleged they obtained $7,792.79 in Medicaid and Temporary Assistance benefits by failing to report income, according to a press release issued Wednesday by the Essex County Department of Social Services.

The charges resulted from an investigation by the department’s Social Services Fraud Investigation Unit.

The LaFountains will be arraigned May 16 in Elizabethtown Town Court before Town Justice William Garrison.

TUPPER LAKE — A Tupper Lake couple were arrested on drug sale charges Monday.

Shannon Truesdell, 18, and her husband, Branden Clement, 20, both of Tupper Lake, were served with arrest warrants just before 7:30 p.m., according to the Tupper Lake Police Department.

The charges were second-degree criminal sale of marijuana, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

It is alleged that the husband and wife sold marijuana to a minor younger than 18, police said.

Following their arraignment, both suspects are being held in Franklin County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash or $2,000 bond for each of them.

Truesdell and Clement are due to reappear in court May 13.
