DANNEMORA — Town of Dannemora officials are hoping there is enough interest from residents to bring natural gas to the town.
“This would certainly save people a lot of money in heating costs,” Town Supervisor Americo “Ves” Pivetta said.

New York State Electric and Gas is considering bringing natural-gas service into the town; it is already supplied to the Village of Dannemora and neighboring Chateaugay.
In order for NYSEG to commit to the service, there has to be enough interest among potential users, who are asked to fill out surveys about natural-gas needs, Pivetta said.
The surveys are available at the Mobil gas station and American Legion, both in Lyon Mountain; Maggy’s Marketplace and Haley’s Pizza in Dannemora; and the town offices at 1169 Cook St. in Dannemora.
They must be completed and mailed to NYSEG, Marketing and Sales, P.O. Box 5224, Binghamton NY 13902-5224 or sent by email to firstname.lastname@example.org by April 25.
“NYSEG needs to make sure there are enough people who want this because they have to make money, too,” Pivetta said.
“But I think absolutely this would be a good thing, not only for residents but for businesses and the town as well.”
Pivetta said most homes in the town are heated with fuel-oil-burning furnaces or boilers. He estimated the average cost per year is between $2,500 and $3,500 for most residents.
“You could probably cut that by one-third if you had gas,” he said.
Signing the survey does not obligate residents to purchasing natural gas; it only expresses interest in the possibility.
