Local author wins literary award
BLUE MOUNTAIN LAKE — Speedy Arnold, local author and illustrator of “What’s an Elephant Doing in the AuSable River?!!,” recently received the prestigious People’s Choice Award at the Adirondack Center for Writing’s annual Adirondack Literary Awards ceremony.
With more than 40 nominees in five categories, the children’s book was selected by Adirondack Center for Writing members and attendees at the ceremony.
The 60-page hardcover book, with more than 130 full-color illustrations, takes a young boy and his dog on an adventure along the AuSable River in Keeseville. The book weaves local history with nature and a bit of whimsy (the discovery of an elephant along the way).
The book can be purchased at the author’s business, Arnold’s Grocery & Likker Lokker, 182 Pleasant St., Keeseville from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
